Moving on Up in Nelson

As I write this, a storm is descending on the country, with tornadoes and snow already reported. If you’re a buyer, think of this as nature’s way of filtering properties that may or may not be suitable to purchase.

Natural events often have a habit of filtering out properties that were poorly built, were sited in areas that are poorly drained, or don’t stand up to some of the more minor shakes we experience on a regular basis. There’s another less obvious angle to this too. Often when properties are imperiled by flooding, an improvement in civil infrastructure makes what was risky, suddenly less risky. For this reason, if you were looking at a property that had once been flooded, but you were aware that the council intended significant drainage work, such as has been happening on the city side of the Bishopdale saddle for the last year, you may find yourself getting a bargain without exposing yourself to a repeat performance next time it rains heavily.

This week we have our auction at 54 Stanley Crescent, Nelson, and next Wednesday it’s the turn of 118A Princes Drive Nelson. Both homes have motivated sellers, great views and represent very good buying, so we are expecting to see some action here. Even if you’re not thinking of purchasing, you’re welcome to attend the auction. Generally we hold the auctions in our rooms rather than on site.

Now that the street has been opened back up for vehicle traffic outside our office in Trafalgar Street, the consensus seems to be that closing it for 6 months over summer to all but pedestrian traffic has been a success. I anticipate the Nelson City Council will repeat the exercise this summer.

This means that for the next 6 months you can park right outside our office again, as you come in to list your property or buy one of our outstanding homes for sale – or you could come to the open homes this weekend, starting 12.30 pm Sunday. We have such a variety, that whether you’re looking for a residential property for a single person, a couple or a family, we have something for everyone.

As I write this I’m wrapping up two very busy days at the Downunder Live immigration expo in the UK and about to jump on the plane to come home. I have missed Nelson and I can’t wait to return to blue, unpolluted skies and warmer weather.

I’ll no doubt spend the next few weeks following up the various leads I’ve got, and my partners in Migrate2nelson will be flat out working with the database of lovely people I have met here – all wanting to contribute to NZ and make Nelson their home. I even met a few Kiwi expats longing to be home.

A big hand for my team who have been doing the work of three in my absence – Jacqui and Miriam are the back bone of my team and have been doing the deals and listing up a storm while I’ve been wading through the snow working our buyers in the northern hemisphere.

Our new listing this week is 54 Stanley Crescent, Port Hills Nelson. This is an immaculate and spacious home with sensational views out both side of the house. I’ll stop right there because my own words struggle to describe this gorgeous home – you’ll really have to come to our first open home yourself to check it out and see what I mean.

Jacqui will be running the first open home as I’m in the UK doing appointments and getting ready for the Downunder Live immigration expo in Glasgow this weekend. I’m writing this at the same time as packing my bags to head to the UK – I’ll be doing appointments in London and Glasgow, and working at the immigration Expo in Glasgow nearer the end of the month. And yes, I’m packing a jacket just in case it’s still snowing.

Our new listings this week are at 75 Bronte Street, Nelson – a charming character home with three bedrooms, and a delightful double garage, this home is very easy walking distance to town. The owner has done some nice renovations and we would expect you could move in here without having to do more work before you can enjoy it as your new home.

We have a big family home coming up in Stoke that we’ll have photos and information for nearer the weekend and we should be able to bring that to you this time next week.
